Staying Home For The Holidays

Hi there, It's Olivia
I don’t know about ya’ll, but I cannot handle holiday travel. The mere thought of fighting the crowds and traffic throws me into a state of panic. It’s not that I am anti-social or don’t enjoy time with family and friends. But give me an empty plane on Thanksgiving morning any day, over the long lines and pushing and shoving the day before.
When my ex and I lived in NYC, we intentionally stayed home and booked our favorite, impossible to get into restaurants, while the rest of the shmucks were stuck on the Jitney in traffic on their way to the Hamptons. It was also the best time to take a stroll through Central Park and visit the Metropolitan Museum.
But Mountain Town is one of those destinations that people descend upon during Labor Day
weekend. The cooler mountain temps and a plethora of mountain biking and hiking trails are a huge draw. So, what am I doing? Ryley and I are having a staycation at my beautiful rustic ski chalet. And I decided to have a few people over for an impromptu barbeque. The thing about having a wrap-around deck with scenic mountain views is that you become to “go-to” place for entertainment. But I don’t mind. I just buy a bunch of groceries, make a batch of killer Sangria, and put some of the neighborhood guys to work at the grill. I don’t know what it is about grilling, but it brings on competition between the men. Each trying to outdo each other. I am just happy to hand over the tongs! And crown someone “grill master” at the end of the evening.
The kids started pulling out the Twister. I forgot that I even had that! They were having a blast
contorting themselves into crazy positions. Audrey even came over with her long-time boyfriend, Nate. It was nice to see her let down her hair outside of the office. Then the rest of the dogs arrived! Phoebe and Johnny arrived with Ryley’s buddy, their German Shepherd, Max. My neighbor also came over with her mutt Chocolate. Hot Josh came by after his shift and fit right in! It was pure mayhem with kids on the floor, dogs running between their legs, friends drinking Sangria on the porch, and guys trading grilling secrets at the grill. I loved it! I wouldn’t trade this moment for anything. I hope that you have an amazing weekend as well!
Happy Labor Day!
