Work-Life Balance

I felt this Labor Day weekend might be an interesting time to ponder the work/life balance concept. I would also like to preface this by stating that I absolutely DO NOT possess it, hence the reason that you have not heard from me in 3 weeks. I have yet to figure out how or if this is truly an achievable goal.

Malcolm Gladwell wrote that it takes 10,000 hours to master a skill. If that is the case, I have mastered multiple skills ten times over. No one who conquered the world did it by leaving work at 5:00. I believe that it was Mark Twain who said, “Find a job you enjoy doing, and you will never have to work a day in your life.”  Well, that is just a bunch of bullshit. I love what I do. I have more passion for my job than most, but I WORK.

According to Bill Gates “There is more to life than work. Don’t wait as long as I did to learn this lesson. Take time to nurture your relationships, to celebrate your successes, and to recover from your losses”. Yet would he have achieved his level of success without being a workaholic?

So, what is the answer? I don’t have it. I am just asking the questions.

One thing that I do know is that no one ever said “I should have worked more” on their deathbed.

Until Next Time,

❤️

Olivia
